Which tools can be used for architecture is determined by how effectively these tools are used. Simply answering a few questions can test this:
- Who will use the tool?
- Who will pay for the tool?
- Who is going to maintain the content produced by the tool?
If the persons or group identified in the first question is not the same as the ones in the second question, there will always be a problem. Commitment to use tools is important, this can be best determined by whom pays the bill.
Any tool produces some output. This output needs to be maintained. When initially not clear who is going to maintain this output, the tool is essentially useless for the long-term.
